FAQs about CSFC [4 Jul @ 2:33pm]

A few frequently asked questions have been answered for you below:

Q: Am I good enough?
A: With 8 teams catering to all standards you are sure to find a level that suits you. At every level in the club the emphasis is on player development and enjoyment. For anyone who is new to London or just looking for a new social or sporting outlet, then it's about the camaraderie that comes from playing regular football with mates and sharing or drink or two in the bar afterwards.

Q: I am serious about my football and I want to play to a high level, will the Civil Service offer me the challenge I need?

A: If you come from a serious football background, whether ex-professional, semi-pro or University 1st XI, then you will probably be looking to get into the CSFC's 1st team and competing in the Premier Division of the Southern Amateur League (SAL). Your teammates will be like-minded individuals, committed to working hard on Wednesdays and Saturdays but equally aware that amateur football is about enjoyment as well. The SAL is run as well as any professional league, not surprisingly so given the 140 or so years of history many of its members boast.

Q: I'm not a serious footballer and I don't think I will able to make it every week due to other commitments, can I still join?
A: If you don't want to train every week or if you think you can't make every Saturday, there is still a place for you, and you'll be made very welcome whatever your aspirations.

Q: Where are you based?
A: We are fortunate to have a fantastic riverside development just over Barnes Bridge in Chiswick, with 6 pitches excellently maintained by our full time groundsman and a recently refurbished clubhouse. Good transport links means the club is only 20 mins from central London. After the game there are plenty of excellent riverside pubs in which to conduct the post match analysis!
Q: And what do you have to do as a member of the Club?
A: The honest truth is very little, other than turn-up, commit to the Club rules and ethos, pay your match fees and give your best each week. That is a testament to the organisation and commitment of the long-standing CSFC members, many retired, who still commit their Wednesdays and Saturdays to the Club.
